A Brief History of the Accademia Gallery florence
( Galleria dell’accademia di firenze )

Les Galerie de l'Académie de Florence started as an art school in Florence. It was created to teach artists by showing them plaster copies of famous sculptures.

Over time, it became home to amazing real artworks. The gallery’s big moment came when they brought Michelangelo’s David statue to live there.

Over the years works have been transferred to the Accademia including Michel-Ange’s statues of the Prisonniers et St.Matthew. Other noteworthy artworks at the Galerie Accademia Florence include the plaster model of Giambologna’s Rape of the Sabine Woman et le Stradivarius instruments in the Museum of Musical Instruments.

Today, it’s one of the world’s most famous art museums.

Beyond its beauty, David holds deep meaning for the people of Florence.
